THE WEEK PAST IN AURORA PREP SPORTS, 9.1-9.7.26

MONDAY, SEPT. 7: In the lone contest played on the Labor Day holiday, the Regis Jesuit field hockey team put up multiple goals in each half of an 8-0 win at Smoky Hill.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 5: In a monster showdown on the diamond, the Eaglecrest softball team walked-off Class 5A top-ranked Erie 7-6 when Sydney Smith brought home two runs with a perfectly placed base hit to right field. Ryleigh Stufft also drove in two runs for the Raptors — who scored all of their runs in their final two at-bats — while Haisley Elliott pitched 6 1/3 strong innings. …The Rangeview softball team stretched its winning streak to three games with a 14-6 home victory over Highlands Ranch, which was keyed by a nine-run outburst in the bottom of the sixth inning. Anabelle Velasco allowed six runs (though just two were earned) in a complete game effort, while Sophia Caloca and Angeli Zavala-Benavente drove in two runs apiece and Devyn Davenport went 3-for-5. …The Smoky Hill softball team outlasted host Northglenn for a 10-8 10-inning victory that included 18 hits for the Buffaloes. Maryn Schuldt got the win in relief and joined Ailey Henry, Ava Matheny and Sophia Anaya with three hits apiece, while Jade Ross homered and drove in three runs. …The Grandview and Regis Jesuit girls volleyball teams each went 1-1 on the final day of the Chaparral Showcase tournament at the Gold Crown Fieldhouse, while the Raiders won the head-to-head matchup of the local programs 25-18, 23-25, 25-11. …Cherokee Trail’s Madison Lange won the individual championship of the Liberty Bell Invitational Sweepstakes girls race, which also saw two other local top-20 finishes in Regis Jesuit’s McKenna Groen (7th) and Eaglecrest’s Jenna Winn (17th). The Cherokee Trail boys cross country team got a second place individual finish from Bryce Pintaric, while Jaxon Weber and Kenneth English came in eighth and ninth, respectively, as the Cougars won the Division 1 team title. …The Eaglecrest girls flag football team defeated Vista PEAK Prep 6-0. …The Cherokee Trail boys tennis team finished fourth to lead local squads at the Amy Howe Memorial Tournament hosted by Smoky Hill. The Cougars had the No. 4 doubles champion in Elijah Yu and Shivam Nadiyadra, plus the runner-up at No. 3 doubles, while the Buffaloes were led by Evan Nguyen, who lost in the No. 1 singles final.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 4: The Aurora Science & Technology boys soccer team doubled up Vanguard Classical East 2-1. …In a rematch of last season’s Class 5A state championship won by the Regis Jesuit boys soccer team, the Raiders fell to Ralston Valley 1-0. It snapped a 23-game unbeaten streak (21-0-2) for Regis Jesuit since the start of the 2025 season. …The Regis Jesuit girls volleyball team got double-digit kills from Chandler Lynott in both a 19-25, 25-19, 28-26, 25-21 win over Dakota Ridge and 25-22, 26-24, 25-22 victory over Fort Collins on the opening day of the Chaparral Showcase at the Gold Crown Fieldhouse. Avery Kreutzer racked up 58 assists between the two matches for the Raiders. Grandview got 14 kills from Yanna Griffin plus 11 more from Amelie Pigeaire in its 24-26, 25-20, 28-26, 25-14 win over Green Mountain. …The Gateway girls flag football team rolled to a 36-0 victory over Bruce Randolph. …The Overland gymnastics team accrued 174.075 points en route to a sizeable victory at the Loveland Invitational, which saw Roosevelt and Broomfield finish in second and third, respectively. Piper Sannes claimed second place in the all-around competition — with a second place finish in the uneven bars leading the way — while Josie Arlt took sixth in the all-around (paced by a third on the uneven bars) and Abby Mess won the balance team and tied for seventh overall.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 3: Sydney Cobb struck out seven in three no-hit innings for the Cherokee Trail softball team in a 15-0 win over Rock Canyon. Tayah Burton and Rylee Holsten drove in three runs apiece for the Cougars. …An 11-1 win for the Grandview softball team over ThunderRidge included a strong six-inning effort for Christi Birx, who struck out eight and allowed just two hits. Lily Jackson knocked in four runs and Mackenzie Hiebert went 3-for-3 for the Wolves. …Four-RBI days for Devyn Davenport and Shannon Henry paced the Rangeview softball team to a 21-1 win over Lincoln. …Claire Pariset pitched a four-hitter for the Regis Jesuit softball team in a 6-1 win at Mullen. Elsa Pedersen and Jillian Samaras had two hits apiece for the Raiders. … Andrew Campbell, Mouhamed Fall and Carter Sullivan scored goals for the Grandview boys soccer team in a 3-0 win over Holy Family. …Sebastian Plata tallied twice for the Eaglecrest boys soccer team in a 3-1 win over Mountain Range. …A Brandon Casillas hat trick plus two goals and twoassists from Martin Carrizoza led the Hinkley boys soccer team over Kennedy 7-1. …The Vista PEAK Prep boys soccer team downed Aurora West College Prep Academy 5-1. …Emily Peterson racked up 14 kills and Sanaya Wyatt had 11 for the Vista PEAK Prep girls volleyball team in a 25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 26-24 defeat of Brighton. …MJ Ranum threw four touchdown passes for the Smoky Hill girls flag football team in a 38-13 victory over Aurora Central. …The Grandview field hockey team doubled up Poudre School District 2-1.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 2: Emma Rice threw a four-inning no-hitter for the Cherokee Trail softball team in its 12-0 victory over Columbine, which saw the Cougars amass 12 hits on the other side. Charlotte Aldridge homered and had three RBI — as did Sydney Cobb — while Rylee Holston and Kayla Kee joined Aldridge and Cobb with two hits apiece. …The Regis Jesuit boys soccer team tallied five times in the opening half of a 5-2 road win over Cherokee Trail. Caleb Bruce scored twice in the second half for the Cougars. …The Aurora Science & Technology boys soccer team collected a 3-1 victory over William Smith. …The Cherokee Trail girls volleyball team swept past Rock Canyon 25-16, 25-17, 25-17. …The William Smith girls volleyball team got the better of Aurora Science & Technology by a score of 25-20, 25-20, 25-16. …In the largest girls flag football game of the night, Grandview toppled Mountain Vista 33-26, which ended the Golden Eagles’ 41-game winning streak dating back to the start of the 2024 season. Brooke Sullivan had 289 yards of total offense (143 passing, 146 rushing) and threw three touchdown passes for the Wolves, who got two rushing touchdowns from Solvie Youde. …Abby Rudkin threw for 198 yards and found Zania Romero-King and Mia Stanton for touchdowns for the Rangeview girls flag football team in a 12-8 victory over Eaglecrest, which got its lone score on the ground from Iyana Gonzalez Som. …The Vista PEAK Prep girls flag football team got 188 yards passing and three touchdowns from Rilee Bergquist en route to a 32-7 win over Cherokee Trail. Joanna Byrd, A’Maya Fernandez and Kylie Allison all had touchdown catches, while a stifling defensive effort included two interceptions apiece from Byrd, Elazia Patton and Marissa Martinez. …The Regis Jesuit field hockey team earned a 3-1 home win over Denver East as Katie Rasure scored twice and Bella Diaz also put one in the back of the cage. Sam Beatty, Meg Lamar and Jasmine Lugo collected assists for the Raiders. …Regis Jesuit’s Will Farber fired a 2-over-par 74 at Murphy Creek G.C. to win the Buffalo Shootout boys golf tournament hosted by Smoky Hill. Austin Katzer and Chris Carreira (sixth and eighth, respectively) helped the Raiders finish second, while fifth-place individual Reece Nuwash and the Buffs took fourth.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 1: Ailey Henry homered and plated three runs for the Smoky Hill softball team in a 20-8 win over Denver South. …Shannon Henry knocked in four runs for the Rangeview softball team in a 16-1 win over Kennedy. …The Grandview boys soccer team scored three times in the second half to rally past Horizon 4-3. …Adriel Lopez and Rooney Leon Hernandez had two goals apiece for the Rangeview boys soccer team in a 5-1 win over Aurora Central. …The Aurora Central girls flag football team downed Denver West 48-7. …The Regis Jesuit boys tennis team downed Mountain Vista 6-1.
