THE WEEK PAST IN AURORA PREP SPORTS, 8.25-8.31.26

MONDAY, AUG. 31: The Regis Jesuit softball team outlasted ThunderRidge 18-17 in 8 innings as Alex Tavlarides earned the win and had three hits, while Elsa Pedersen drove in four runs and Kendal Craven knocked in three. …The Aurora Science & Technology boys soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 2-1 defeat of STEM School Highlands Ranch. …The Cherokee Trail girls volleyball team swept past visiting Douglas County 25-15, 25-23, 25-4. …The Grandview girls flag football team dropped a 20-13 showdown with Legend in a battle of contenders at EchoPark Stadium. …Despite goals from Bella Diaz, Jasmine Lugo, Izzy Nichols and Katie Rasure, the Regis Jesuit field hockey team fell to Cherry Creek 5-4 at Stutler Bowl. …The Cherokee Trail boys golf team won the four-team Buffalo Stampede at Aurora Hills G.C. helped by Easton Doolittle, Isaac Paik and Jesiah Stantz in the top five. Smoky Hill’s Reece Nuwash claimed individual honors with a 2-under-par 70, while Regis Jesuit’s Sam Neagle shot 75 to place second. …Ace Kelly of the Vista PEAK Prep boys golf team shot a plus-9 81 to lead the way among locals at the City League tournament played at Murphy Creek G.C. Kelly’s Bison placed sixth in the team standings, while Rangeview (paced by Wyatt Sandness) placed eighth.

SATURDAY, AUG. 29: The Grandview softball team got a strong effort on the mound from Christi Birx, but fell 3-2 on the road at Chaparral. Ally Birx drove in Monroe Donaldson twice for the Wolves. …Madison Lange of the Cherokee Trail girls cross country team picked up a win in the girls race at the Steve Lohman Invitational at Village Green Park and was followed by another area runner in Regis Jesuit’s McKenna Groen, while Eaglecrest’s Jenna Winn grabbed sixth place. Lange’s Cougars — supported by the 12th and 13th-place finishes from Jade McDaniel and Clara Kapfer — finished second behind Fossil RIdge. The Regis Jesuit boys cross country team finished second with a top finish from Gus Blauwet, while the Aurora area had two top-10 boys performers in Vista PEAK Prep’s Brandon Pearcy (seventh) and Cherokee Trail’s Kenneth English (ninth). …The Grandview girls flag football team rolled past Columbine 35-0 at Legacy Stadium behind two passing touchdowns and two defensive interceptions from Brooke Sullivan to go with touchdowns for Solvie Youde, Reisa Cox, K’Dence Thomas and Kendall Tracy. …The Eaglecrest girls flag football team picked up a 25-12 road win over Legacy.

FRIDAY, AUG. 28: The Rangeview softball team split a pair of games at the Mike Felton Showcase tournament at the Barnes Softball Complex in Loveland as it defeated Mountain View 12-10 and lost to Timnath 11-8. Devyn Davenport homered and drove in four runs in the victory and Sophia Estrada had four RBI between the two games. …Despite 18 kills from Olivia Laughlin, plus 13 from Londyn Donaldson and 48 assists from Jillian Kuskie, the Cherokee Trail girls volleyball team fell to powerhouse Chaparral 23-25, 26-24, 26-24, 25-16. …Michaela Halton threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns and the Overland girls flag football team scored the final 19 points of the game to rally past Rangeview 19-18. Jalena Flores caught two touchdown passes and Joy Jamison had the other (in addition to two interceptions) as the Trailblazers overcame Abby Rudkins’ two touchdown passes to Mia Stanton for the Raiders. …The Smoky Hill girls flag football team edged Denver North 13-6. …The Grandview boys tennis team accrued 54 points to place third (behind Valor Christian and Rock Canyon) at the Greeley West Invitational.

THURSDAY, AUG. 27: The Regis Jesuit softball team scored seven times in its last two at-bats to rally past visiting Grandview 10-6 in a game rescheduled from the previous day due to weather. Alex Tavlarides earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief, while the Raiders were led offensively by Alexis Colvin, who knocked in three runs. …The Rangeview softball team downed Adams City 14-11. …Despite a 5-for-5 performance from Haisley Elliott plus three RBI apiece from Ryleigh Stufft and Giana Vialpando Williams, the Eaglecrest softball team fell to visiting Legend 12-9 in a high-powered matchup. …Carter Sullivan poked in a loose ball for the deciding goal to lift the Grandview boys soccer team to a 2-1 win over Arvada West at the North Area Athletic Complex. Andrew Campbell had the other goal for the Wolves, while Tristan Pigeaire made six saves. …Aiden Meza Caballero’s goal in the opening half stood up for the Smoky Hill boys soccer team in a 1-0 Centennial League win at Cherokee Trail. Christopher Zavala earned the clean sheet with four saves. …The Aurora West College Prep Academy boys soccer team came away with a 3-2 road victory at Aurora Central in a local clash. …Taylor Slothower combined 11 kills with four blocks, while Katie Drugan racked up 10 kills and Natalia Jarzebczyk dished out 44 assists for the Eaglecrest girls volleyball team in its 25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19 win over ThunderRidge. …In a matchup of the two Aurora area girls flag football teams off to the best starts, Grandview defeated Vista PEAK Prep 21-7. Brooke Sullivan had just shy of 200 yards of total offense and threw three touchdown passes (two to Reisa Cox and another to K’Dence Thomas) for the Wolves, while a connection between Rilee Bergquist and Gabrielle Trammell accounted for the points for the Bison. …The Aurora West College Prep Academy girls flag football team rolled past Denver West 37-12 as Gay Thmoe tossed three touchdown passes, Maria Gutierrez Benitez and Yosseline Silva Monsivais topped 100 yards rushing with a touchdown and Destiny Martinez caught two scoring passes.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 25: The Regis Jesuit girls volleyball team earned a 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-14 Continental League victory over Ponderosa. …Sam Silver finished just a shot out of the top shot at the Centennial League’s third boys golf tournament, which was played at Kennedy Golf Course. Silver’s 1-under-par 70 helped lead the Wolves to third, while Anthony Chen (73) and Jeffrey Chen (74) helped Cherokee Trail to a tie for fourth. Smoky Hill’s Reece Nuwash carded a 71 to tie for third individually.

TUESDAY, AUG. 24: The Cherokee Trail softball team got an 11-0 road win at Valor Christian with help from a home run and three RBI from Delaney Falzon. Emma Rice allowed one hit in three scoreless innings and the Cougars had plenty of offense as Sophia Jans knocked in two runs. …The Regis Jesuit softball team topped Smoky Hill 16-0 as Alex Tavlarides struck out seven and allowed just three hits in four innings and had three RBI herself. Elsa Pedersen went 3-for-3 and scored four times, while Jillian Samaras added three RBI and four others players knocked in two runs. Lexi Larsen had two of the three hits for the Buffs. …The Regis Jesuit boys soccer team edged visiting Broomfield 2-1. …Luke Vonhoff’s goal in the second half held us as the Grandview boys soccer team held off Vista PEAK Prep 3-2 at Stutler Bowl. Andrew Campbell and Dominik Fedotov had goals in the opening 10 minutes to put the Wolves in front before the Bison rallied. …Kevin Luna scored twice to help the Overland boys soccer team try to rally in a 3-2 loss to Gateway at Stutler Bowl. The Olys got a second half goal from Derek Merlo in the victory. …Gio Duran netted a hat trick to help the Hinkley boys soccer team to a 5-1 win over Littleton. Frank Cardoza and Martin Carrizoza also had goals for the Thunder. …Mohammad Ahmadi and Adriel Lopez scored in the second half to rally the Rangeview boys soccer team past Horizon 2-1. …Avery Kreutzer had nine kills, five aces and 21 assists to help pace the Regis Jesuit girls volleyball team to a 25-10, 25-19, 25-22 win over Boulder. Chandler Lynott added six kills and three aces. …The Gateway girls volleyball team swept past DMLK 25-14, 25-20, 27-25. …Joanna Byrd had three interceptions and scored a defensive touchdown and the Vista PEAK Prep girls flag football team defeated George Washington 30-12. Rilee Bergquist threw touchdown passes to Kylie Allison and Kadience Milligan for the Bison. …The Gateway girls flag football team earned its first win with a 6-0 defeat of Denver East. …The Eaglecrest boys tennis team defeated Vista PEAK Prep 5-2 in a matchup of local programs. …The Regis Jesuit girls field hockey team piled up nine goals in a 9-1 victory over Boulder Valley School District. …Jeffrey Chen of the Cherokee Trail boys golf team shot 5-under-par 65 to tie for individual honors at the City League Invitational played at City Park G.C. The Cougars were sixth among 26 scoring teams.
