Man found dead from gunfire on West Aurora sidewalk

AURORA | An unidentified man was apparently lying on a west Aurora sidewalk fatally wounded by gunfire, possibly for hours, before someone called police Sunday morning, according to police.

At about 7:30 a.m. officers were called to the intersection of East Warren Avenue and South Galena Street after reports of a man lying on the sidewalk.

“Officers quickly determined the male, 49, had a gunshot wound and had died before first responders arrived at the scene,” Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement. “Investigators believe the shooting occurred hours earlier.”

Police said they so far have no suspect in the shooting.

The man will be identified by coroner officials at a later date.

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
