Aurora schedules low-price special e-waste recycling event for late July
AURORA | Aurora residents can recycle many household electronics at a reduced rate during a special city recycling event July 20-July 24.
The event will be held at Pedal Point LifeCycle Solutions at 3251 Lewiston St. Recycling drop-off is available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The program is open to city residents only and does not accept business customers.
Most electronic items, including desktop computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, gaming equipment and other consumer electronics, will be accepted for a $5 recycling fee per vehicle or individual.
Cash and debit or credit cards are the preferred forms of payment.
Additional fees will apply for certain televisions and monitors because of increased processing costs. Flat-screen LCD and LED televisions cost $20 each to recycle, while CRT monitors and televisions cost $50 each. Console, projection and DLP televisions cost $100 each.
Pedal Point LifeCycle Solutions, an officials partner with the City of Aurora, which is certified for electronics recycling and data destruction, wipes and physically destroys data storage media. Certified data destruction with a certificate is available for $5 per hard drive or other data-containing device.
City officials said electronics should not be thrown in the trash because they can create environmental hazards and are banned from Colorado landfills.
Future special pricing events are scheduled for Sept. 14- Sept.18 and Nov. 16-Nov. 20.
