Girls Golf: Thirteen Aurora area golfers earn spots in 5A state tournament

AURORA | The Colorado High School Activities Association revealed the list of qualifiers for each of the upcoming girls state golf tournaments Monday and Aurora area programs earned a combined 13 spots.

Four-player teams from Cherokee Trail, Grandview and Regis Jesuit — plus an individual from Smoky Hill — are among those headed to play in the Class 5A state tournament, which runs May 18-19 at Thorncreek G.C. in Thornton.

Regional state qualifying tournaments were eliminated, so players qualified based on rankings of scores aggregated through a required number of rounds played throughout the season. Only four players per teams are allowed to compete at the state tournament.

Headed to the state tournament for Cherokee Trail are seniors Saruul Gantulga and Maya Patel along with juniors Brinnon Cook and Marisa Vialpando, while Grandview also has a senior duo in Charly Ashworth and Jean Lim plus juniors Elizabeth Chang and Jacqueline Cho. Regis Jesuit’s state contingent is made up of senior Natalie Furgason, juniors Molly Amman and Emily Gott and sophomore Claire Pariset.

Freshman Erianna Perez also made the field, giving Smoky Hill its first state qualifier since Sophia Stiwich placed second in 2023.

Notably absent from the 4A state qualifying field is Vista PEAK Prep’s Sophia Capua, a three-time state qualifier who had placed in the top 10 in the past two seasons. Capua played in just four rounds (one fewer than required) this season.
