ALL ABOARD: Town hall explains how to join any of 22 Aurora boards and commissions

AURORA | Want to help plan the future of Aurora’s libraries or give input about water conservation? Now is the chance — the city is hosting an informational town hall and recruiting volunteers for several boards and commissions that have open seats.

The town hall, scheduled for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Aurora Municipal Center, will have representatives from 22 boards and commissions to provide information, answer questions and discuss their work and how to join. City staff will also be available for questions.

The event is free and open to the public with no need to register in advance.

Aurora’s boards and commissions range in topics, including housing, water, youth issues, public safety, arts and culture, planning and parks and recreation. They are made up of volunteers who review policies, programs and community issues to provide recommendations to city council.

Some boards with current openings include the Aurora Immigrant and Refugee Commission, the Election Commission, the Library Board and the Historic Preservation Board.

More information about the available opportunities, eligibility requirements and applications is available at www.AuroraGov.org/Boards.

In a press release about the town hall, Mayor Mike Coffman encouraged residents to attend and learn how they can get involved.

“Aurora residents taking an active role in city government is essential to building and maintaining a community that meets the needs of everyone who calls our city home,” Coffman said.
