Boys Swimming: Four Grandview swimmers earn NISCA Academic All-American nods

In the wake of another memorable season in the water during the spring, the Grandview boys swim team excelled out of the pool as well.

Annually, the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) honors top student-athletes from across the country as Academic All-Americans, which are defined as graduating seniors and lettered that season with a high school program (in swimming, diving or water polo), while they also must have a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.750 on a 4 point scale or 93.7500% of the grade scale their school uses for 7 semesters/11 trimesters.

On the list issued recently by the organization, four members of a Grandview team that finished eighth at the Class 5A boys state swim team in May were Christian Burgeson, Jesse Jaramillo, Mason Shutter and Connor Stevens.

The number of honorees matched the 2025 haul for the Wolves in their last season under head coach Dan Berve.

Burgeson contributed significantly to Grandview’s point total with four top-20 finishes, which included a 16th place result in the 100 yard freestyle.

He teamed with fellow Academic All-American Shutter plus Greyson Connett and Caleb Nelson on Grandview’s third-place 200 yard medley relay team, while he and Jaramillo teamed with Nikolaos Rentzios and Greyson Connett to place 11th in the 400 freestyle relay. Burgeson and Shutter also joined Rentzios and Nelson on the 13th-place 200 yard freestyle relay.

Grandview had the second-most boys among the 14 Colorado boys to earn Academic All-American honors behind only D’Evelyn, which had six swimmers make the cut. Arapahoe, Fossil Ridge, Rock Canyon and Windsor also had honorees (see below).

NISCA will also honor Scholar Teams as well as All-American performers in boys and girls swimming in soon-to-be-released lists.
