Woman struck by bullet in Aurora Sable Ridge neighborhood, police seeking information

AURORA | An unidentified woman was “inadvertently” struck by a bullet and injured early Sunday while in the Sable Ridge neighborhood, police said.

Police were called to the 14000 block of East Iowa Drive at about 12:45 a.m. after reports of shots fired in the area, Aurora police spokesperson Gabby Easterwood said in a statement.

“Officers contacted numerous individuals in the area but were unable to identify a suspect,” Easterwood said. “Crime Scene Investigators responded and recovered shell casings and other evidence from the scene.”

About 20 minutes after police arrived on the scene, they were called to a local hospital that reported a woman had arrived suffering from a gunshot injury.

“The investigation revealed the victim had been in the area of the initial shots-fired call when she was inadvertently struck by gunfire,” Easterwood said. “A vehicle associated with the incident was also found to have been damaged. The victim was treated for her injuries and released from the hospital a short time later.”

No arrests had been made as of Sunday.

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.
