ENGLEWOOD<\/strong> | Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has signed a five-year contract extension through the 2030 season, owner and CEO Greg Penner announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

The new deal replaced one that ran through 2027 and coincides with the extension recently signed by general manager George Paton.<\/p>\n

\u201cSean Payton has led an impressive turnaround over the past three seasons, instilling a winning culture with high expectations,\u201d Penner said in a statement. \u201cI appreciate the close partnership he shares with George Paton along with the alignment and stability across our football operations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled for Sean to continue leading our team as head coach, building on our progress during such an exciting time for the Broncos.\u201d\n<\/p>\n

Payton was scheduled to meet with reporters following an offseason practice later Thursday as was his offensive coordinator Davis Webb, to whom he has relinquished his play-calling duties.<\/p>\n

Payton won a Super Bowl during his 15-year run as head coach of the New Orleans Saints.<\/p>\n

Payton, 62, is 33-21 including playoffs in three seasons in Denver. Overall, he has a career regular-season record of 184-108 and a 10-10 mark in the playoffs.<\/p>\n

His 184 victories are second most to Kansas City\u2019s Andy Reid\u2019s 279 among active NFL head coaches.<\/p>\n

The Broncos earned the AFC\u2019s top seed last season and reached the conference championship game, losing 10-7 to the New England Patriots in a snowstorm behind backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham.<\/p>\n

Bo Nix was sidelined with a broken right ankle after getting hurt late in the Broncos\u2019 overtime victory over Buffalo in the divisional round.<\/p>\n

Payton was 8-9 in his first season in Denver, then went 10-7 and ended the franchise\u2019s eight-year playoff drought in 2024, losing to the Bills in the divisional round. The Broncos went 14-3 last season.<\/p>\n
